Application Design 1 - Lecture & Practical
01 Sept 2023 - 06 Oct 2023 (Week 1 - Week 6)
Card sorting is a method used in UX research where participants organize
content labels into bigger categories. It helps us understand how users
group content, so we can create a user-friendly information structure.

4 things to observe from users:
Behaviours, Motivation, Goals and Needs
As instructed in the previous class, we brought along sticky notes and
marker pens. Based on the provided scenarios and features, we organized
and categorized them using card sorting method to aid users in tracking
their daily fitness and health goals.
We grouped the features into six main categories. The "Menstruation"
category is tailored for female users, while the "Medication" category is
for users who need to take their medication regularly throughout the day. In
addition to these, we've included the "Blood Glucose Tracker" and "Workout
Challenges" as extra features to improve user engagement and overall
experience.
As the presentation of sticky notes was unclear, I present them in a
digital format using MIRO.
Given a scenario as shown in image above, we are required to create user personas, then identify their motivation, needs, behaviours and goals towards the process of purchasing coffee.
Week 3 - Card Sorting Exercise
Throughout our discussion, diverse opinions emerged due to variations in user patterns and habits. However, we maintained respect for each other's viewpoints, understanding that this collaborative effort would lead to an improved outcome.
Engaging in this group activity allowed me to gain valuable insights into the thought processes of my fellow group members. This holds great significance because I anticipate that it will broaden my horizons by consistently encouraging me to consider multiple perspectives, which can be invaluable in overcoming challenges.

Week 1
*public holiday* We have been instructed to create a project
proposal presentation for a mobile application with a poor user interface
and a bad user experience. In-class consultation during next class.
Week 2 - Principles of Usability
Designing Products for User Satisfaction
After being briefed on the MIB, we commenced our first lecture with Mr.
Shamsul. He emphasized that despite this topic having been covered in
the previous semester, its importance warranted its inclusion in this
module. Mr. Shamsul revisited the 5 principles of Usability, which
are:
- Consistency
- Simplicity
- Visibility
- Feedback
- Error Prevention
Week 3 - Card Sorting Method
Card Sorting Method
How to conduct a card sort
1. Choose the content labels you want your test participants to sort.
2. Have research participants organise the items into groups.
3. Analyse the data.
Week 4 - Presentation and Task 2
After individual presentation, we were assigned to create a draft interview/
survey questions for our Task 2: UI/ UX Design Document.

Week 3 - Card Sorting Exercise
Mr. Shamsul mentioned that our group is among the best-designed groups,
displaying a logical flow in the user experience. Additional features like the
Workout Challenge would further enhance user engagement. However, it was
suggested that placing the Calorie Counter before the Nutrient Tracker would
be more accurate.
