Lecture
Digital Photography

| Figure 1.1 - (image from Exposure Guide) |
In today lecture, we learned the basic understanding of digital
photography. From exposure to introducing of the main parts of camera,
Iris - where the lens more open, it absorbs the light more, Iso - the
lower number of ISO the less sensitive the camera is to light and the
finer the grain. In addition, we are being taught the types of camera
lenses, where the more we zoom, the distance capture of scenery could be
far and clear too. At the end of the lecture, Mr. Fauzi also compare the
pros and cons of using DSLR and Smartphone.

Other than that, Mr. Fauzi brief us on Project 2C: Conceptual Product
Photoshoot, where we are require to visualise two elements or
images then combine the images together to create a new image. However,
we entering to that stage, we are encourage to do a few more idea
explorations and sketches to have clear visualisation. The sketches are
instructed to submit on this Friday (07 Oct 2022).
Practical
Project 2A: Digital Imaging Exercises
During practical class, we started to do Project 2A: Photo Manipulation
- Hearst Mansion. We are required to watch the pre-recorded video demonstrated by Mr.
Martin Chong and download the relevant materials from the tutorial
slides provided in Google Classroom.
Slides - Guiding on doing Photo Manipulation - Hearst Mansion
For this exercise, it was separated into 2 section, where we are
required to photo manipulate (Part 1) the Shazam poster
and (Part 2) create a version of ourself leading onto
the wall of Hearst Mansion.
Part 1: Shazam
I had downloaded the Shazam image and Hearst Mansion image from the
drive file provided in the slides. Then, I followed the guidance from
Mr. Martin and got my final outcome for this exercise.

Part 2: My Reflection
Progression:
While doing this exercise, I applied the same technique from what I
had learned in doing Part 1: Shazam. Below are the progression to
achieve the final outcome for this task.

After placing Fig. 1.12 to Photoshop, I used quick selection tool to
crop myself from a picture taken by my friend. Then I add and apply
layer mask.
Then in Step 1, I drag and drop my cropped picture to the
image of Hearst Mansion and resize my picture to the specify place.
Then, I match the colour with the assisting of adjusting of
Luminance and Colour Intensity. From what I had learned, luminance
is to adjust the brightness and colour intensity is to allow the
colour stronger or dull. To match the image quality, I also added
noise to my picture.
Step 2, to create shadow, I created a new layer and rename it
as Shadow. Then I utilised the Brush Tool to draw a black shadow on
the background of my picture layer. Gaussian blur is added and the
opacity of layer is reduce to 66%.
Step 3, I created a new layer for the reflection of myself.
First, I duplicate my picture layer then rename it so I can work
faster and keep track of all the layers. Last, I added Hue/
Saturation for colour correction and apply to create an undulating
effect.
