Figure 1.1 - Tool Box in Photoshop (image from Dhara Ambaliya) |
Mr. Fauzi introduced Photoshop 2 and explain several basic functions of the
tools. Such as Lazzo tool (L) which is similar to
the Bezier game, magnetic lasso and pen tool. Mr. Fauzi suggested us to play more Bezier game to have better control in
using the pen tool in Photoshop. Mr. Fauzi did elaborate that lasso tool is
more into precise details and curves, on the other hand, pen is for drawing
and sharp edges. Last, Mr. Fauzi did suggests us to use more layers, where
stacking each of the layers able us to have full control of each layers, so
we no need to redo and undo a lot of times to alter and adjust the images.
Tutorial
Paths. Masking. Layering
During tutorial, Mr. Fauzi shows video on doing digital collage for our
Project 1. In the video, it shows how to do masking, layering, cut, remove
background and combine, to allow us to do composition digitally.
After that, we start doing our digitise collage at Photoshop. We downloaded
the materials provided by Mr. Fauzi, and we are stressing to learn to remove
the background but we were having fun as we get to learn to things, such as
magic wand is sensitive to pixel, thus can very quick in separating the
subject and background. However, magic wand is for flat surface only. If
images which are not flat surface, we are suggested to use pen tool and
lasso tool.

Practical
Compositing Collage
During practical, we are notified to submit 3 compositing collage by
this Friday and we will discuss the layers together on the next class (Week
4) and submit it with the physical collage by Week 5. Mr. Fauzi advised us
to at least do four layers for each composition and make them individual
layer for better control and alteration. To sum, it is nice to have Mr.
Fauzi class every Monday, but sometimes feel like a little bit to fast as my
brain require more time to process the information.
Shortcut keys learned today:
- command + plus to zoom in and minus to zoom out
- hold the space bar to move around
- scale - shift and drag
- command c and command b for tracing things

Description:
During Week 3, I had learned to remove the background by using a magic
wand, pen tool, and lasso tool to extract and remove the
background of the selected subject. While doing this
digital collage, I stuck to the original dimensions of the
subject, I did not make them into other dimensions or shapes. In
this collage, I want to create a new different world, collapsing
each other. The upper part of this collage, the blue background
(texture) represents the ocean and the fishes are invading the
city. While the bottom part, the red texture representing the
normal world, got buildings, surrounded by leaves and trees.
